FOX CREEK RACE SUNDAY JUNE 29, 2008

DIRECTIONS TO FOX CREEK TRACK
The easiest way is up the south eastern freeway. Turn off at the Hahndorf interchange, and turn left almost straight away to Verdun. Then Turn Right onto the Onkaparinga way. Follow this road through Balhannah and Oakbank. As you come into Woodside there is a second hand shop on your left and after this a road (Tiers Road) which has signs to Lenswood. You follow this until you get into Lenswood and then turn left and quickly then turn right where it says Coldstore Road. Keep following this road until you come to Croft Road. Turn left and follow this to the triangle and drive into the forest reserve.

Coming from Gorge Road – go through Cudlee Creek, turn right where it says to Lobethal. Keep going along this road for a while but get ready for a right turn after a red house at the road that says Fox Creek Road. Keep going along this road for a while until you come to a dirt road which will have the AMBC signs up and is Croft Road. Turn right. Keep going a long this until you come to an area called Springkeld Reserve – there should be lots of cars.

PARKING
Do Not park on the roadway of Croft Road. Parking will be inside the gate, along the road to Thomas Hill, and on the grassed area outside of the race track. We need to get as many cars as we can inside of the gate to avoid traffic issues on croft road.

CAMPING
Sorry, there is no camping available at the event.

TEAM AND SPONSOR TENTS
Team tents and sponsor tents etc can be set up at the start finish line area.

PRACTICE DURING THE EVENT
The track is closed for practice from the start of morning racing (10.30am) until 11.45am. Riders who are practicing the track must not impede any competitor who is competing in the morning event. Please do not ride in front, or directly behind a morning competitor when practicing.

If you are doing a practice lap on race day, please do not ride through the start finish line, as it complicates time keeping. Also, once you have finished, please do not ride thro the finish line again. Either go around, or cover your plate.

TIMEKEEPING DURING THE EVENT
Please do not stand in front of the time keeping tent during the race, or when you finish. The time keepers need to see the riders coming through the finish line. Also while the event is in progress, do not ask the time keepers questions as they need to concentrate on correctly recording numbers.

TIME-KEEPERS
As Always we need assistance on time keeping.
If you can assist, or know someone who can, let me know at info@amtbc.com The new computerized timing system has made timing much easier, however we still need some help to call and record numbers.

RACE PLATES
Please ensure that your race plate is firmly attached to the front of your bike, and is fully visible to the timekeepers. If we cannot see your plate, we WILL NOT record your time. The onus in on the competitor to ensure the race plate is attached to their bike at all times during the event.

SIGN-ON PROCEDURES
pre entry is priced at $22 for members, $32 for non members. Sign on forms will be available at sign on.

If you want to post your entry, we also must receive your form and payment in the post by this Friday.
Post your entry to AMBC, PO Box 134, Lobethal SA 5241.
The form is on the web site - www.amtbc.com

For those who don't pre enter, you can enter on the day. Sign in starts at 9am in the morning - so if you want to miss out on lines come early and then you can also pre-ride the course. Please allow time to fit in a practice lap, we always recommend you do one. DON'T FORGET YOUR MEMBERSHIP CARD.
Also if people could bring the right money this will also speed up lines.

Race entry on the day is $25 for members, $35 for non members. Plate deposit is $10, which is refundable when you bring your plate back.
Afternoon sign in starts at 12.15pm.

INSURANCE
All competitors require accident insurance cover. If you are a member of the Adelaide Mountain Bike club, you will be covered under our capital benefits accident insurance. If you are a member of inside line, you must be a current MTBA card holder. If you are a member of Bike SA, you must provide proof that you have accident insurance through Bike SA's insurance.
If you do not meet the above requirement, then you will need to be signed up as a day member to the Adelaide Mountain bike club.

So don't forget your membership card.

A reminder of sign-on procedures.
If you haven't pre-entered, you must fill in and sign an indemnity form and then line up to have your name entered onto the timing system. You will be issued a race plate.

You must show your membership card.

If you have pre entered, just be on the start line at your start time.

Please note we are not accepting 2003 plates back for refund, as the club has purchased all replacement plates.

Why is your plate so important? On our timing system you are tracked by your number/name/category. If you keep your number all season, then your number and name is ready and waiting in the system at the next race. Also the numbers for each category are unique - so if you change category, your race plate will also change. So if your changing category, please let the people at sign on know, and they will exchange your plate for a new one, in the new category.

MEMBERSHIP
Full AMBC membership is available at the event. To speed things up, you can print off a copy of the membership form from www.amtbc.com

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES - CLARIFICATION ON WHO GIVES WAY We have provided some alternative routes around obstacles. If you choose to use the alternative route, you must give way to riders who have ridden the obstacle, when you re-enter the race line. This will prevent collisions between riders. The alternative lines are slower lines, so the rider who rides the obstacle will be travelling faster.

RIDERS WHO DO NOT FINISH
If you decide that you are not going to start or finish the race, can you let the timekeepers know as soon as you can. This is important, as we need to know where all riders are, so that we know when everyone is finished.

ONE LAP DOWN RULE
Some people have been misinterpreting the one lap down rule.
Just to clarify it, here are the relevant parts of the rule –
“4.3 Once the first competitor of a category has finished a race, all remaining competitors in the same category will be deemed to be on their final lap, and will be flagged as they cross the finish line. In this case a lapped rider will not be belled. Lapped riders will have their time recorded as on the time sheet as "1LD" (one lap down).

4.4 Only riders who have completed the entire lap when flagged will be recorded as one lap down. Riders who partially complete a lap when flagged will not be recorded as one lap down.”

So you need to have completed the entire course on your last lap to be able to be recorded as one lap down.

LITTERING AT EVENTS
On of the conditions of use of this area for racing is that we clean up all litter. This is getting increasingly difficult, and also frustrating with the number of gel packs that have to be picked up as the track is packed up. If you are one of the offenders who are dropping used gel packed, please stop doing this, and place them in your jersey, or somewhere that is not on the ground!

FOOD
Food will be available, with the normal selection from the BBQ. If you want to pre-order, please see Hans at catering in the morning.
There will also be lots of soft drinks, Bratwurst, sausages and Mars Bars.

CLOTHING
Club Jerseys will be available to order at the event.

RACE CANCELLATION PROCEDURE
Current weather forecast is overcast, with a chance of a shower later on Sunday. But as it is winter, anything could happen.

However if it looks like it is going to rain all night and day, please confirm on the club mobile 0408 840 610, after 8.15am on race day that the race is going ahead.

3. COMPETITION

3.1 All riders must produce their club membership and insurance cover upon request at registration.

3.2 The rider must complete the entire stage of an event on one mountain bike. Therefore, the maximum number of bikes a rider may use in an event is equal to the total number of stages in that event.

3.3 A rider can only receive Technical assistance (outside assistance) during a race under the following conditions -

3.3.1 Authorised technical assistance during a race consists of repairs to or the replacement of any part of the bicycle other than the frame. Bike changes are not permitted and the rider must cross the finishing line with the same handle bar number plate that they had at the start.

3.3.2 Technical assistance shall only be given in the feedzones: these zones must be located in areas that are wide enough, long enough and judiciously distributed and identified on the course. The feed zone locations will be determined by the race director and will be indicated by signs.

3.3.3 Spare equipment and tools for repairs must be kept in the zones. Each rider must carry out the repairs or replace equipment themselves, without the help (physical or verbal) of any other person. Competitors are not permitted to exit the race course (i.e. to the car park) to retrieve spare equipment and tools.

3.3.4 Outside of the feedzones, technical assistance is forbidden.

3.4 Any physical contact between a rider and an outside party, other than a competitor in the same event, may be deemed as a form of Technical assistance and result in a penalty.

3.5 Food and drink may be carried by a competitor. Glass containers of any sort can never be used by competitors during a competition. Riders can only receive food, fluid and eyewear from outside parties in the feedzone during a competition.

3.6 Competitors riding bikes have right of way over competitors pushing bikes. Competitors pushing bikes must allow right of way, and not impede competitors who are riding. In multi lap races slower riders must allow right of way to riders who are lapping them. The overtaking rider
should indicate the side they intend passing on.

3.7 Competitors who have ridden an obstacle have right of way over competitors re-entering the course from a marked alternative line.

3.8 Short cutting the course will result in disqualification. If a rider leaves the course, they must re-enter at the same point they exited.

3.9 The course will be marked by 20 x 20cm markers. Where forward pointing markers are placed on either side of the track, this forms a gate. All competitors must pass through this gate. The course is open to interpretation between course marking.

3.10 Foul riding or un-sporting like behaviour may be grounds for penalty, disqualification, fining or membership suspension. The penalty imposed shall be decided by the executive committee of the Adelaide Mountain Bike Club.

3.11 All appropriate laws and ordinances of the relevant jurisdictions shall be observed by all parties during participation in any event, and while at the event location.

4. TIMING

4.1 Start Sequence is determined by the Race Director.

4.2 When competitors have one lap left to complete a race, a bell may sound to indicate final lap, as they cross the line. If an event is 3 laps or less, the race director may deem the process of belling competitors as un-necessary.

4.3 Once the first competitor in a category has finished the race, all remaining competitors in the same category will be deemed to be on their final lap, and will be flagged as they cross the finish line. In this case a lapped rider will not be belled. Lapped riders will have their time recorded as on the time sheet as "1LD" (one lap down).

4.4 Only riders who have completed the entire lap when flagged will be recorded as one lap down. Riders who partially complete a lap when flagged will not be recorded as one lap down.

4.5 All riders who do not finish must advise the time keeper as soon as practicable that they have withdrawn from the race. These competitors will have their time recorded on the time sheet as "DNF" (did not finish).
