Escapegoat Adventures' 2010 Alpine Epic- 10-24 July 2010
Escapegoat are pleased to release the dates and information about our 2010 Alpine Epic. A number of AMBC members joined us last year to ride in the Alps, and we had an amazing trip. In 2010 we will be returning to the French Alps, with the added bonus of watching the Tour De France race through the region, including the final climb of the race into Morzine-Avoriaz.
A varied riding itinerary is planned, and the riding is best described as "All-Mountain", with some chair lifts utilised, but riders also need to be prepared for a few climbs and to be occasionally challenged technically. A number of 'epic high alpine' days will be included, as well as a chance to ride the 2010 'Passportes' Route. This involves an 80km loop using 12 chairlifts, with over 6500m of descending and only 500m of climbing. Expect to cover 3 valleys and visit 7 different towns and villages in France and Switzerland in one day.
Accommodation is in a 400 year old quality chalet that boasts an abundance of character and has been carefully furnished in authentic French style, and has luxuries such as a hot tub and wifi internet. The trip includes full catered breakfasts, packed lunches and 3 course evening meals with wine. A full itinerary of 11 days of riding in both the Portes Du Soleil and the 'undiscovered' region of the Grand Massif is planned. There are a maximum of 12 places. For more information and to book your place, visit our website at www.escapegoat.com.au

We now have an online membership system, where you can join, or renew your membership.
Fire ban season starts on 1 December 2009 and goes through to 30 April 2010 in South Australia, and this does have an effect on Mountain Biking.
If a Total Fire Ban is declared in the Mount Lofty Ranges, you are not allowed to enter a forest reserve (or Eagle MTB park). You may be fined if you are found in a forest reserve on fire ban days.
Further information on daily fire bans can be found on the CFS website at http://www.cfs.org.au/
or phone the bushfire information hotline on 1300 362 361. Fire Ban signs are also usually displayed outside CFS stations through out the hills.

Sally's Ride has been in operation since 2002 raising funds and awareness for mental health issues particularly aimed at prevention of youth suicide.
This year the event is undergoing a huge change in that it will be a one day event on Nov 15th which consists of 4 varying ride challenges and is open to everyone 16 and over. The largest ride will see entrants ride to Clarence Point and cross via ferry to George Town then return to Launceston via Karoola.

South Australia has secured the rights to host the Australian Mountain Bike Championships at Eagle Mountain Bike Park for the next three years.
Recreation and Sport Minister Michael Wright and Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith announced on March 1st that Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) had chosen South Australia to host the five-day championships from 2010 to 2012.
The first event will be held at Eagle Mountain Bike Park, at Leawood Gardens in the Adelaide Hills, from 13-17 January 2010.
A series of significant infrastructure improvements will be made to Eagle Mountain Bike Park in preparation for the championships.
This will include an upgrade of the park's internal access road, establishment of a permanent, world-class four cross (4X) track, expansion of a downhill finish area and minor upgrades to existing courses.
The final day of the five-day competition will coincide with the Tour Down Under's prologue event, the Down Under Classic, on 17 January.
The event will decide the national mens, womens, junior and other category champions in each of the five main disciplines of mountain biking - Cross Country Olympic (XCO), Short Course Cross Country (XCC), Downhill (DH), Four Cross (4X) and Trials (OT).
The 2012 event will also serve as a major qualifier for selection of Australian representatives in the cross country event for the London Olympic Games.
The National Championships are being organised and managed by the SA MTB Consortium, consisting of Adelaide MTB Club and The Inside Line downhill MTB club supported by the Office for Recreation and Sport and Events SA.
This is expected to be the biggest mountain-bike event ever held at Eagle Park, and numerous upgrades will be going ahead to prepare for it.
During 2009 the Office for Recreation and Sport will be developing a Four Cross Track at the eastern end of the Mezzanine, upgrading the internal Access Road and expanding the area at the bottom of the downhill course.
Other enhancements will be made to the trail network to ensure Eagle Park will provide the best possible experience for competitors and spectators alike.
While there will be some disruption at the Park during the year as these projects are implemented, including temporary trail closures from time to time and possibly full Park closure for short periods, we hope to keep the inconvenience as minimal as possible.
We ask that riders be patient and co-operative as Eagle Park receives its biggest facelift yet; rest assured it will re-emerge better than ever before!
